The iphone hits the red dot, soon..

After a year since the iphone is being launched in United States, it will soon arrive in Singapore soon at the end of the year. The popular phone would on sale by all three service providers, Singtel, Starhub and M1 at the end of the year. However, this is a radical departure for Apple since in almost every market, it insists on a distributiorship deal with only one operator.

This is also why operators in countries such as China refuse to carry iphone and why its launch here has been delayed. However, Apple might finally drop its insistence on revenue-sharing in order to capture a larger market share. One example is that Italian operators, Vodafone and Telecom Italia, is the first time Apple has made a non-exclusive deal in a country. In US, the authorised distributor is AT&T, in France its Orange, in Britain its O2 and in Germany its T-Moblie.

However, from reports, this announcement might not really see people racing to get one as most keen fans would have already gotten a hacked one. Some are also waiting for the release of its next version which would have 3G.

The common use of iphone in countries like United States would also have its effects on the society and also human behaviors. This is due to its ease of accessibility to the internet which is a source of facts. At first thought it might seem amusing, but it would definitely change how people act, think, converse and interact in future. Take a look at this article.

Here's an example of what's happening for iphone users:

  • Wil Shipley, a Seattle software developer, uses his iPhone at the Whole Foods fish counter to check websites for updates on which seafood is the most environmentally correct to purchase. He quizzes the staff on where and how a fish was caught. Because he carries the Internet with him, "I can be super-picky," he said.
  • Backstage recently in a Little Rock, Ark., theater, actress Natalie Canerday said the cast of a play was enjoying debating the year Bruce Springsteen's album "Born to Run" was released. Then the director took out his iPhone. All conversation stopped as he sought the answer: 1975, according to Wikipedia.
  • Daniel Bernstein had one when he arranged to meet friends at a bowling alley in Daly City, near San Francisco. The lanes were booked. Bernstein used his iPhone to locate another bowling alley 10 miles away, find out how long the wait for a lane was and get driving directions.
So why is singapore the red dot?
